Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and southeast of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919.

About the Opportunity

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) is currently seeking a full-time Council Services Coordinator to join their Council Services team based in Manyallaluk, Northern Territory. 

Operating under the Area Manager Council Services (Central Arnhem), your primary responsibility will be to coordinate the effective delivery of core municipal services under the Council Services Directorate Operational Plan, within the Manyallaluk community.

This will be achieved by:

  • Overseeing the core services delivery model in your service area (Manyallaluk);
  • Actively managing the workforce employed to deliver Council Services programs;
  • Maintaining and implementing work plans for each program as directed;
  • Establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with all Council work teams and relevant government agency officers; 
  • Contributing to the achievement of objectives outlined in Council's strategic plan and regional plan; and
  • Being a safety leader and maintaining a safe workplace environment.

This is a broad operational role, as such the suitable candidate will have a strong operational background and a demonstrated record of achievement in the successful completion of small projects. Individuals who have been in a similar role within Community Services, Community Safety, Administration, WHS or Local Government will be well suited to this position.

Your strong organisational skills will be pivotal to your success, ensuring you can effectively coordinate and manage a small team, and a number of projects simultaneously, for periods in excess of 4 weeks. With well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, you will be able to liaise with a wide variety of employees and external stakeholders, ensuring strong working relationships are maintained.

Candidates with an awareness of issues affecting Indigenous communities in remote locations will be best suited to this position, equipping you with the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with Indigenous people.

A current 'C' and 'LR' class driver's licence and a Working with Children Clearance Notice (OCHRE Card) are essential to be considered for this position. You will also be required to undertake a criminal history check and update each year as required.

Please note: Some out of hours work, including travel to neighbouring remote communities requiring overnight stays will be required, so must be comfortable with this.

Prior to employment with Roper Gulf Regional Council you must obtain the following:
