About the Opportunity

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) now has a unique opportunity for a full-time CDP Builder Trainer to join the Community Development Program team based in Beswick, NT, only an hour's drive from Katherine.This is a full-time, fixed term contract up to 30th June, 2018, with the possibility of extension.

The newly appointed CDP Builder Trainer will report directly to the CDP Employment Coordinator, and have responsibility for organising, preparing, facilitating, monitoring, evaluating and documenting construction projects and related training activities of job seekers under the CDP. You will mentor and encourage job seekers where necessary to assist them in overcoming individual barriers to education and employment.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the identification and delivery of suitable projects to provide quality activities for job seekers;
  • Identifying key elements of building projects so as to engage with and develop the employment skills of local job seekers;
  • Liaising with training providers to deliver accredited training;
  • Maintaining accurate records of job seeker participation; and
  • Supervising job seekers in the delivery of the projects.

Suitable candidates will have a trade qualification with significant experience working as a tradesperson in a construction industry skilled area. You will have demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to manage, control and coordinate a team, and team resources effectively, whilst still ensuring goals and objectives are met. 

An excellent communicator, you will be comfortable in responding to moderately complex enquiries that require detailed and careful explanation, and to negotiate and/or mediate issues between parties to effectively resolve problems.

Although not essential, experience within a training / educator role will be highly regarded, as will possession of a nationally accredited Diploma or equivalent qualification. An understanding of the complexity of Indigenous community dynamics, including the social and economic circumstances faced by many Indigenous people and communities will be looked upon favourably.

Please note: You may be required to drive considerable distances in the course of your duties in this role and must possess a current Class C Drivers Licence with a manual driving capacity.

Prior to employment with Roper Gulf Regional Council you must:

  • Hold a current Northern Territory 'C' class manual driver's licence;
  • Undertake a new criminal history check at commencement of employment with RGRC;
  • At commencement of employment hold a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (OCHRE Card) or provide an application receipt for an exemption to be approved by SAFE NT prior to commencing; and
  • Be an Australian Resident or provide the current, relevant Visa to work within Australia.
