Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and southeast of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Indigenous Workforce Engagement Coordinator to join Roper Gulf Regional Council in their Human Resources team based in Katherine, NT. This position is being offered on a full-time, fixed term contract basis until 31 December 2019, with the possibility of extension.
Council is committed to a two year trial of this new role and are looking for a dynamic and culturally sensitive individual with the drive to successfully implement this new program.
Operating under the direction of the Human Resources Manager and with the support of the Indigenous Workforce Engagement Steering Committee, you will be maintaining a high-level of recruitment and retention for existing and potential Indigenous staff. This will be achieved by:
To be considered, you will have relevant tertiary qualifications, demonstrated knowledge, understanding and skills in engaging with Aboriginal communities, a range of verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adjust to be appropriate for different groups, and a knowledge and understanding of community development principles in an Indigenous society.
In this role it is essential that you have well developed interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to liaise with a wide variety of employees and external stakeholders, ensuring strong working relationships are established and maintained. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, including negotiating and consulting with Aboriginal people.
Some out of hours work, including occasional travel to remote communities requiring overnight stays, will be required and you must be comfortable with this.
