About the Organisation

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and south-east of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919.

About the Opportunity

Roper Gulf Regional Council is seeking an experienced CDP Employment Consultant to join their Community Services team based in Katherine, NT. This is a full-time, fixed term contract up to 30th June, 2019, with the possibility of extension.

Operating under the direction of the CDP Assistant Manager, you'll be responsible for assisting remote sites in delivering a contractually compliant service under the Community Development Programme. You will support staff to develop job plans that lead to positive personal and professional development for job seekers. This will be achieved by:

  • Providing training, current information, guidance and support to CDP staff and job seekers;
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure exceptional service delivery;
  • Engaging with remote communities to deliver job seeker services that are culturally, socially and environmentally appropriate;
  • Interacting with job seekers to foster professional, respectful relationships; and
  • Ensuring contractual compliance and compiling reports as required.

To be considered, you will have a proven background in employment services, ideally within a remote area context. It is desirable that you also have a thorough understanding of the CDP contract. 

Through strong leadership, you will effectively supervise, train and mentor staff and use your well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with a wide variety of employees and external stakeholders, ensuring strong working relationships are established and maintained. You will be confident in communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds and preferably, have an awareness of the issues affecting Indigenous communities in remote locations.

Some out of hours work, and travel to remote communities necessitating overnight absences may be required, as such the successful candidate must possess a current manual Class C Drivers License, with the ability to operate vehicles on unsealed roads and travel in light planes. Ideally you will also have the skills to operate a four wheel drive vehicle or be comfortable to participate in four wheel drive training.

Prior to employment with Roper Gulf Regional Council you must:

  • Hold a current Northern Territory 'C' class manual driver's licence;
  • Undertake a new criminal history check at commencement of employment with RGRC;
  • At commencement of employment hold a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (OCHRE Card) or provide an application receipt for an exemption to be approved by SAFE NT prior to commencing; and
  • Be an Australian Resident or provide the current, relevant Visa to work within Australia.
