Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and southeast of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919.

About the Opportunity

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) now has an excellent opportunity available for a full time Compliance Officer to join their Community Development Programme (CDP) division, based in Katherine, NT. This is a full-time, fixed term contract up to 30th June, 2019, with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the CDP Assistant Manager, you will assist the Council to achieve targets to maintain a financially sustainable delivery model for the CDP. Additionally you will be responsible for monitoring compliance systems and procedures and providing senior administrative support, to enable optimal performance of the CDP contract. This will be achieved by:

  • Maintaining quality records in accordance with Federal and Local guidelines, as per the contract of job seeker records to the standard required under the contract;
  • Monitoring CDP portal updates and advising staff of changes;
  • Creating and monitoring weekly site performance reports and taking appropriate corrective action; 
  • Conducting site audits; 
  • Maintaining the records system to ensure appropriate authorisation and documentation is kept for all claims; and
  • Engaging with the local community to deliver job seeker services that are culturally, socially and environmentally appropriate within the contractual guidelines. 

Candidates will require demonstrated experience within the CDP contract to enable them to successfully achieve the above.

About you

RGRC are seeking candidates with previous experience in the employment services sector and the ability to analyse contracts, policies, procedures or legislation to solve problems or respond to enquiries. Your excellent written communication, with the ability to write standard correspondence will go hand-in-hand with your well-developed word processing and computer application skills. 

You will be able to manage competing priorities by establishing, coordinating and monitoring your own work plan, and your excellent communication skills will enable you to liaise with a range of stakeholders and the public to build lasting, effective relationships. 

Importantly, you’ll have an understanding and genuine interest in Indigenous culture, with the ability to liaise with Indigenous community members in a culturally sensitive manner. Previous experience working in a similar position within the Local Government sector, or within a cross cultural environment will be highly regarded. 

Some of your work will involve travelling by both road and light aircraft to communities distant from Katherine, with some overnight stays required, so you must be comfortable with this.

Prior to employment with Roper Gulf Regional Council you must:

  • Hold a current Northern Territory 'C' class manual driver's licence and confidently drive manual 4x4 vehicles on unsealed roads;
  • Undertake a new criminal history check at commencement of employment with RGRC;
  • At commencement of employment hold a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (OCHRE Card) or provide an application receipt for an exemption to be approved by SAFE NT prior to commencing; and
  • Be an Australian Resident or provide the current, relevant Visa to work within Australia.
