Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and southeast of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919.

About the Opportunity

Roper Gulf Regional Council has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Project Manager to join their Corporate office, based in Katherine, NT.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Governance, your primary role will be to plan, execute and finalise projects in accordance with Council's objectives. This will include acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of internal project teams and external contractors, formulating tender and quotation requests, project design, awarding of contracts, works monitoring and sign-off on completed works. In addition, you will define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout the project.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that Council's projects are successfully completed within budget, on time and in accordance with contractual obligations;
  • Developing and implementing project and contract delivery strategies and project specific plans;
  • Managing the design and project management teams;
  • Developing tender and quotation requisition documentation and contract acceptance; and
  • Ensuring that Council gain full value for money from all consultants and contractors (internal and external) engaged in relation to infrastructure projects.

Candidates with tertiary qualifications in a building-related trade, Project Management, Engineering or Business Management, coupled with experience in the management of budgets and contractors, will be best suited to this role. You will be highly organised with strong time management skills, ensuring you’re able to effectively manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.

Your high level communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to communicate courteously with the public, will be pivotal to your success. As will your ability to interpret legislation, standards and policies to ensure that work is performed according to directives issued by clients and in accordance with any legislative requirements.

Experience in the use of AUTOCAD or similar computer-based drafting software packages (or the ability to quickly learn) will be essential.

Please Note: A current 'C' class manual driver's licence is essential to be considered for this position. Some out of hours work, including occasional travel to remote communities requiring overnight stays, may also be required.
