About the Organisation

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and southeast of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919. 

The Council’s mission statement is: “Working as one towards a better future through effective use of all resources”. This serves to give strategic direction to Council’s service delivery and its partnerships with the NT and Australian Governments and other stakeholders.

About the Opportunity

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) is currently seeking an experienced Manager - Governance and Corporate Planning to join their Corporate team in Katherine, NT on a full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Director - Corporate Governance, this is an exciting senior leadership role that will see you assisting Council to meet its corporate governance responsibilities. 

Key areas of accountability will include:

  • Developing and reviewing strategic business plans and other corporate level plans, including counter-disaster and local implementation plans;
  • Identifying and supporting the management of emerging strategic issues;
  • Coordinating compliance throughout the organisation;
  • Coordinating Council communications and community engagement and its committees; and
  • Providing administrative, logistical and training support to Council as required. 

Suitable candidates will have tertiary qualifications in the areas of Governance, Community Development, Management, Business, Law or similar and demonstrated experience in a similar role. Your high-level knowledge of good corporate and governance practices, preferably relevant to Local Government, will be pivotal to your success.

This is a leadership role with 5 direct reports and as such, you must have the demonstrated ability to manage staff, providing leadership and guidance to your team and creating clear guidelines around workflow and delivery expectations. 

Importantly, you will have good interpersonal skills and be comfortable communicating with people from a range of diverse cultural groups. Candidates with an awareness of issues affecting Indigenous communities in remote locations will be well-suited to this position.

Prior to employment with Roper Gulf Regional Council you must obtain/hold the following:

  • A current 'C' class Driver's License;
  • Undertake a new criminal history check at commencement of employment with RGRC;
  • At commencement of employment hold a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (OCHRE Card) or provide an application receipt for an exemption to be approved by SAFE NT prior to commencing; and
  • Be an Australian Resident or provide the current, relevant Visa to work within Australia.
