About the Organisation

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and southeast of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919.

About Bulman

Bulman is a small town in the Northern Territory,  and is one of the few significant settlements on the Central Arnhem Road between Katherine and Nhulunbuy.

With an all weather airstrip, Bulman can be reached by plane from Katherine within the hour, or by road in 3-4 hours. Other facilities in the town include a school, health clinic and police station, and the community now has full mobile coverage!

Bulman lies in undulating country among surrounding hills. It is known for its natural beauty and indigenous culture. There are spectacular rock formations and rock art in the area. Fishing is a popular pastime, especially in the nearby Wilton River where you can catch Barramundi, Black Bream and Freshwater Prawns!

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a CDP Senior Employment Supervisor to join Roper Gulf Regional Council in their Community Services team based in Bulman, remote NT. This position is being offered on a full-time, fixed term contract basis until 30th June, 2019 with the possibility of extension.

Operating under the direction of the CDP Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for delivering the Community Development Programme (CDP) contract at Bulman and surrounding areas. You will support job seekers to identify individual goals for participation plans that lead to positive personal and professional development and encourage community participation to enable long-term employability. This will be achieved by:

  • Managing the delivery of job seeker case management services at Bulman and the surrounding communities in compliance with the CDP contract, operational guidelines and Council's service delivery standards;
  • Organising and supporting training activities including partnering with internal and external stakeholders to deliver cost effective training on or off community;
  • Maintaining staffing levels in accordance with the approved staffing structure to ensure a reliable and effective service;
  • Placing job seekers in appropriate activities and work placements in accordance with the CDP guidelines; and
  • Engaging with the local community to deliver job seeker services that are culturally, socially and environmentally appropriate.

Bulman, is a dry community so no alcohol is permitted.

About you

To be considered, you must have demonstrated experience in employment services (DES, DHS, CDEP, JSA, RJCP or CDP), and the ability to plan, organise and implement program activities, educational workshops and training to effectively engage with job seekers.

Candidates who have experience working in a remote area, and a solid understanding of the CDP contract will be held in high regard.

As you will be leading a small team, you must also have previous supervisory experience and the willingness and ability to lead, train and mentor staff.

Your well developed interpersonal and communication skills will enable you to liaise with a wide variety of employees and external stakeholders, ensuring strong working relationships are established and maintained. You will be confident in communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds and preferably, have an awareness of the issues affecting Indigenous communities in remote locations.

Some out of hours work, including occasional travel to remote communities requiring overnight stays, will be required and you must be comfortable with this.

A current 'C' class manual driver's licence is essential to be considered. Suitable candidates will be required to undertake a criminal history check and update each year as required.

Prior to employment with Roper Gulf Regional Council you must obtain the following:

  • Hold a current Northern Territory 'C' class manual driver's licence;
  • Undertake a new criminal history check at commencement of employment with RGRC;
  • At commencement of employment hold a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (OCHRE Card) or provide an application receipt for an exemption to be approved by SAFE NT prior to commencing; and
  • Be an Australian Resident or provide the current, relevant Visa to work within Australia.
